Real Madrid vs Inter Milan

Tuesday 6 December, 20:00

On Matchday 6, Real Madrid will face Inter Milan in the Champions League, with the top spot in Group D up for grabs.

Real Madrid extended their advantage at the top of La Liga to eight points after defeating championship rivals Real Sociedad 2-0 on Saturday night. Los Blancos captain Karim Benzema was forced off early with a hamstring injury, and head coach Carlo Ancelotti subsequently confirmed that the French striker will miss the midweek Champions League fixture.

Benzema joins Gareth Bale on the sidelines, however they are Ancelotti’s only two key absentees. Given that Madrid has already qualified for the Champions League and will face Atletico Madrid in a highly anticipated rivalry this weekend, the Italian may be inclined to rotate his squad.

This season, Los Blancos have only been defeated twice in all competitions (W16-D3-L2) while easily eliminating all their hardest opponents like as Inter Milan, Shakhtar Donetsk, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, and others.

Inter Milan knows that only a win at the Bernabeu would suffice to claim first place in the pool on Tuesday, and the Nerazzurri warmed up for the meeting in Spain’s capital with a 3-0 victory against Roma on Saturday.

The Italians are currently only one point behind the leaders in Serie A. However, Inter have a few injury concerns ahead of the Madrid encounter; Joaquin Correa limped off early with muscular strain, while Lautaro Martinez and Stefan de Vrij are all listed as severe doubts.

The reigning Italian champions have also lost only twice this season in Serie A and the Champions League (W14-D5-L2), scoring at least twice in 16 of their 21 games under Simone Inzaghi’s management.

Borussia Dortmund vs Besiktas

Tuesday 6 December, 20:00

Borussia Dortmund will compete for pride against Besiktas in their last Group C match of the UEFA Champions League.

Dortmund’s decline in the Champions League has come as a surprise given how well they started the competition; they began with consecutive wins in their first two matches but lost their last three, and they can no longer qualify for the round of 16 and will have to settle for a place in the Europa League.

On Saturday, Borussia Dortmund lost 3-2 to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga after making a few defensive errors. They have an overall strong record at Signal Iduna Park, with eight victories in their past ten home games.

Besiktas has had a disappointing season overall, and they look to be underperforming on all fronts at the present. They are sitting mid-table in the Turkish Super Lig with a mediocre 6-3-6 record, and are last in Group C of the Champions League.

Sergen Yalcin’s men have gone winless in their previous four matches in all competitions, suffering three defeats in the process. On Saturday, they drew 1-1 with Kasimpasa in the Super Lig to warm up for the trip to Dortmund.
