On Sunday, Celtic will play Rangers in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup at Hampden Park.

Celtic vs Rangers

Sunday 17 April, 14:00

At Ibrox earlier this month, the Old Firm rivals faced off in a potentially title-deciding Scottish Premiership fixture. Celts opened up a six-point lead atop the standings with a 2-1 victory, so Rangers will be looking to avenge their loss.

Celtic advanced to the Scottish Cup semifinals with a 3-0 win over Dundee United, while Rangers beat Dundee by the same margin. Rangers are yet to concede a goal in the campaign, while Celtic have conceded just one.

Celts last won the cup in 2020, while Rangers last won it in 2009.

Celtic are in high spirits heading into the semi-finals this weekend. They have won each of their last six games across all competitions, including an emphatic 7-0 league victory at home against St Johnstone last weekend.

Celtic remain in the driving seat to reclaim the Premiership title from Rangers, as they lead by six points with only five games remaining in the current season, including another Old Firm derby on May 1.

Postecoglou’s team have already won the League Cup this season, and victory over the Gers on Sunday would keep their chances of winning the domestic treble alive, a feat they have achieved in four of the last five seasons.

Giorgos Giakoumakis – who is the top scorer in this year’s competition with four goals – has been ruled out of Celtic’s match with a hamstring injury.

Over 2.5 goals have been scored in Celtic’s last 3 FA Cup matches.

Rangers will compete in the semi-finals of a European competition for the first time since 2008 following a 3-2 aggregate victory over Braga in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

In spite of losing 1-0 in the first leg away from home last week, the Gers advanced to the last four after a 3-1 second-leg win at Ibrox on Thursday night, with James Tavernier (2) and Kemar Roofe scoring, the latter netting the winner in extra time.

The Rangers lost back-to-back matches against Celtic, losing 3-0 at Parkhead in February and 2-1 at Ibrox earlier this month.

Both defeats came under Van Bronckhorst, who has yet to defeat Celtic as Rangers’ manager.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men might be tired after overcoming a one-goal deficit to defeat Braga in their UEFA Europa League match midweek. Alfredo Morelos and Filip Helander have both been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to injuries.

Over 2.5 goals have been scored in each of Rangers’s last 4 FA Cup games.
