Venezia vs Empoli
Sunday 16 January, 14:00
At Stadio Penzo there is bound to be plenty of football entertainment on Sunday, with Venezia hosting Empoli.
Midweek action saw Venezia eliminated from the Italian Cup by Atalanta, but they have bigger worries in the Serie A.
They have seen their comfortable 7-point margin from the relegation zone slashed to only a single point, after failing to win any of their last seven games (0-2-5)!
At home, Venezia is struggling defensively; they have conceded at least two goals in six of their last seven home matches in Serie A.
In contrast to Venezia’s struggles, Empoli sit a comfortable 12 points above the relegation zone (8-4-9).
Empoli boast an impressive away record, with five of the eight wins they have recorded this term coming on their travels.
Meanwhile, here have also been over 2.5 goals scored in nine of Empoli’s last 11 games in Serie A, with the Tuscan side conceding three or more times in each of their last three games.

AS Roma vs Cagliari
Sunday 16 January, 17:00
Roma welcome improving Cagliari to Stadio Olimpico on Sunday, in search of a much-needed three points. Roma now have a nine-point deficit to overturn if they’re to secure UEFA Champions League football for the first time since 2018/19.
Losses to both Juventus (at home 3-4) and A.C. Milan (away 3-1) have made the mood quite dour around the Romaverse. Despite Roma’s top-four hopes being dealt a blow in recent weeks, there’s still plenty of intrigue surrounding this weekend’s affair.
The signings of Sergio Oliveira and Ainsley Maitland-Niles look to be a step in the right direction
The Giallorossi will be without first-choice central defenders Chris Smalling and Ibañez, and central midfielder Bryan Cristante.
Cagliari enter the affair on a two match winning streak, giving them hope in their search to avoid relegation.
Having failed to win any of their previous 11 games, Cagliari have now won two matches in a row, including their first away victory of the season.
However, those triumphs – over Sampdoria and Bologna – pale in comparison to the task ahead of them this Sunday.
Cagliari cancelled the planned press conference for coach Walter Mazzarri, because three players – Simone Aresti, Raoul Bellanova and Matteo Lovato – tested positive.
Christian Oliva was the only remaining member of the Sardinian group who still had COVID-19.

Atalanta vs Inter
Sunday 16 January 16, 19:45
Inter Milan beat Juventus, 2-1, to win the Supercoppa Italiana on Wednesday thanks to a late Alexis Sanchez goal. Simone Inzaghi lands the trophy for the Nerazzurri for the first time since 2010! That is the third time in the last four years that the Inzaghi has been the winning boss after his SS Lazio successes.
Having lifted the Supercoppa Italiana, Inter will hope to continue their excellent recent form with another big game, this time against fourth-placed Atalanta.
The race for the Serie A title is intensifying. Inter are in the lead but AC Milan are just one point behind. They are at the top of the Serie A table with 49 points in 20 matches and have been undoubtedly the best offensive team in the league this season, scoring 51 goals so far to comfortably pace the league.
Simone Inzaghi’s men have won their last eight Serie A matches, while they have scored two or more goals in 10 of their last 12 away matches.
In midweek, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side defeated Venezia with ease in the Coppa Italia. Joakim Maehle and Luis Muriel scored the goals in their 2-0 win.
Atalanta has had a hard time in their recent Serie A matches, having lost 4-1 to Roma and drawn scorelessly with Genoa just before the holiday break. All in all, Atalanta are without a win in the clubs’ last six Serie A encounters – drawing four and losing two matches.
Atalanta enjoy netting plenty of their own too, seeing over 2.5 goals in 7 of their last 8 matches.
